More on 9-5 and 9-3 Cambelt Replacement.

Cambelt and Water Pump failure on 9-5 and 9-3 Tid 1.9L models.

Further to our post on the Cam belt and Water pump failures, we have received several calls. A common question has been. ” What exactly is changed ?”
In answer to this. We recommend that when the cambelts are done on these models that the full cambelt replacement kit as supplied by Saab is used. The standard Saab service schedule lists only the belt as a replacement service item. However we have noticed more and more that the idler pulley and the tensioner are showing signs of wear such that they would not last the life of the new belt.
For this reason we offer the choice of having, just the belt fitted, or the full replacement kit. The replacement kit adds a cost of £62.10 plus vat for the 16v DTH engine, and £65.21 plus vat for the 8v DT engine we do not charge any extra labour for fitting.
Whilst we are all feeling the effects of the economy and making savings wherever possible neglecting to fit these parts can prove to be a false economy since failure of any of the pulleys or tensioners causes very expensive engine failure.
